Good Neighbours Schemes
Good Neighbours Schemes provide support for the elderly, disabled, or anyone who feels isolated within their community.
OCVA took on the work of looking into the schemes in Oxfordshire which was funded by Oxfordshire County Council. The principle of the schemes is that local groups of volunteers offer a service in their community for those in need of help and support. This can include assistance with transport, gardening or running general errands.
'As a single woman, without family living near, I get quite anxious whenever I get ill, wondering how i'm going to get the prescription, my shopping etc. Knowing that there is a Good Neighbour on my street that I can call on gives me real comfort and peace of mind.' - Beneficiary of Good Neighbour Scheme
The work carried out by OCVA involves working with existing voluntary groups that offer an informal service in their community, as well as supporting people who want to start a new group, by providing a toolkit of resources. To download the toolkit click here
