Oxfordshire Mind is running a Mental Health First Aid course in Abingdon in February. Dates: Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 February 2012 (participants must attend both days) Time: 9:30am to 4:30pm each day Mental Health First Aid is a nationally accredited 2-day training course designed to give participants the knowledge and skills to recognise the signs of mental ill-health and support someone to seek the right help. It covers the spectrum of mental health disorders from anxiety to psychosis, providing knowledge of their signs, symptoms and treatments.

A nationally accredited 2-day training course designed to give participants the knowledge and skills to recognise the signs of mental ill-health and support someone to seek the right help.

The course is aimed at people without specialist mental health training, from family members and carers, to employers to people who are likely to come into contact with those at risk of poor mental health. On completion of the course all participants receive a Mental Health First Aid (England) certificate (participants must attend both training days).

This free session is intended for people who are new to safeguarding and work with children or young people and will cover all the basics you need to know. This introductory course will cover what safeguarding is and what your legal obligations are towards it, what abuse is and how you may recognise it. Additionally we will go through what you may do if you suspect abuse or neglect and how you can develop policies for safeguarding children for your organisation.

The Oxfordshire Befriending Network supports people with life-threatening and terminal illnesses. They are now looking for more Befriending Volunteers to visit in Oxford and out in the County. The Network will offer excellent free training, on-going support and expenses.

 

Their next training course will be held in Oxford on Wednesday 21 September (morning session) Wednesday 28 September (full working day) - Wednesday 5 October (full working day).

Free Training for 'Peer Brokers'

Since the introduction of 'personal budgets,' local authorities have paid for independent brokers to help people put together packages of care and other supports. So far, most brokers have previously been paid workers in health or social care services.

Community Glue however knows that people who have used services (or supported other people who have used services) can also become experts. As such Community Glue has developed training for people who want to become 'peer brokers'
