I Want To Volunteer

The Volunteer Centre Oxfordshire has regular contact with individuals who are interested in volunteering but may need more information before they can consider a position. At the top of this page we have included a range of documents that may be helpful on subjects such as benefits issues, etc.

As a volunteer you have rights and responsibilities. We have created a good practice document above in the useful document section which will help you think about any questions you may wish to consider asking an organisation when you go along for an informal visit. For example, there might be some things that you feel unsure of being able to do but the organisation you volunteer for will offer you support and training. In some organisations you can start with some simpler tasks to get used to the environment before moving on to more complex or ‘hands-on’ jobs.

When you have read any useful information below, you can click here to search for opportunities using the national volunteering database do-it!

Alternatively, you are welcome to make an appointment to visit our office, where we hold information on current local current volunteering opportunities in Oxford City and South Oxfordshire. There is also a confidential area for volunteers to have a one to one, face to face interview.

Our office is in Floyds Row, St Aldates, Oxford. This is near the police station and Job Centre Plus office. We are open Monday to Friday, 9.30am - 4.30pm.

If you would like to talk to somebody, please contact Lindsay Watts, Volunteer Centre Manager, tel: 01865 251946 or email: vol@ocva.org.uk

What do volunteers achieve from becoming involved with local community and voluntary groups?

The Volunteer Centre Oxfordshire has contact with individuals who have many different reasons for wanting to become involved in volunteering in their local community. Volunteers explain below some of the reasons they personally want involvement in volunteering:

"I worked very long hours during day and felt I did not have enough time to socialise. I became involved in volunteering which led to me making many new friends, as well as getting to know my local community."

"I wanted to become a social worker and undertaking volunteering allowed me to develop my skills prior to undertaking the course. The group I am involved provide some excellent training that contributing to my learning experience."

"I have been through some tough times in my life. I got help from organisations who wanted me to go forward and now have a positive future. I now want to give back to individuals who may be in the same situation."
