Campaigning for political change: local change for charities in Big Society

NAVCA are hosting an event to discuss the topic: Local change for charities in the big society

Can and should local action replace Westminster meetings? With new people, new priorities and new policies in government, new pressure not to lobby and new opportunities for charities to take on traditionally public sector responsibilities, where will you be putting your campaigning resources?

Will you be joining forces or going it alone; widening or narrowing your scope? Will you be taking more constituency action?  Are others making the same decisions as you?

With new scrutiny on lobbying, public spending cuts and a looming Public Spending Review, and policies including the Big Society opening up charities to an ever-increasing role in public life, join colleagues and experts for round-table discussions and networking. Get the lowdown on the issues, discuss your approaches and what has to change, get breakfast into the bargain and be back at your desk by midday; refreshed, informed and networked.

Speakers include:

  • Emily Robinson, Head of Public Affairs and Campaigns, Local Government Association
  • Dean Russell, Director of Digital, Fleishmann Hillard - Third Sector columnist and District Councillor for Harpenden
