NAVCA and OCVA are hosting a Democracy Day on 3rd March for:

  • community and voluntary group members and individuals who are engaged in their community and want to learn more about how to influence decision makers

Oxford Help 4 Haiti are organising a music event to raise money for the people of Haiti following the recent earchquake. The event takes place on 4 March at The Regal, Cowley Road, Oxford between 10.00pm and 2.00am, featuring local artists and bands.

Following the success of Holi and Diwali programmes, Oxford Hindu Temple and Community project presents a bigger and better HOLI - a festival of colour, with music, fun dance and food.

The event takes place on Saturday 6 March and comprises of a food court with stalls from different states of India, a henna hut, other indian stalls, hourly dance workshops for adults and children, Bhangra performance and Holi dances and music on screen to create a wonderful atmosphere.

M.A.D.D. for Haiti are hosting a concert to raise money for UNICEF's Haiti Earthquake Children's Appeal featuring BARAKA, the Bristol-based world music bank. Baraka is fronted by Ben Baddoo from Ghana, well known in the world of drum and dance.

OCVA and Oxfordshire County Council are running a ‘speed dating’ event to give  voluntary sector groups an opportunity to meet with staff in the statutory sector.

Groups will be able to learn about issues such as contracts, procurement and putting together a good tender bid. Those attending will move round tables of different themes on a ‘date’ with the relevant person, and have the chance to ask questions on each theme.

The INVOLVE South East project is organising an apprenticeship workshop on Wednesday 17th March at the Guildford YMCA.  The workshop is aimed at third sector employers with the potential to employ apprentices and to provide more information to support this. 
 
Madeleine Watters from NAS in the South East will be giving a presentation and answering questions along with a third sector organisation who has experience of working with apprentices.

The INVOLVE South East project in partnership with Fair Train would like to invite you to an interactive apprenticeship workshop on Wednesday 17th March at the Guildford YMCA. The workshop is entitled ‘Apprenticeships for the Third Sector – Busting the Myths!’

 Madeleine Watters from the National Apprenticeship Service will be leading the interactive workshop which starts at 10am and closes at 1pm, with a light lunch provided. There is no charge for this event. There are still a few places left but they are available on a first come, first served basis!

This training opportunity aims to empower voluntary sector organisations to use the principles of the Compact and public law to negotiate effectively with public sector bodies.

NAVCA's award winning public law workshop covers sopics such as how to deal with unfair funding cuts and how to identify if a public body's decision-making processes are lawful.

The workshop is open to staff and volunteers from all third sector organisations who are funded from public bodies.

The workshop is being hosted by David La Piana, one of the foremost authorities on the topic and author of The Nonprofit Mergers Handbook. Having worked extensively in the American nonprofit sector since 1979 La Piana's methodology is based on five years of case study research and 12 years of practical experience.
